Wood based activated carbon making machine
The wood-based activated carbon production machine is a type of equipment that converts wood raw materials (such as wood chips, sawdust, coconut shells, etc.) into activated carbon through processes like carbonization dan activation. Its core purpose is to manufacture efficient adsorbent materials with a highly developed pore structure, which are widely used in environmental protection, water purification, chemical industry, metallurgy, food processing, and new energy fields.
Wood suitable for making activated carbon generally has the following characteristics:
Dense wood structure and well-developed ducts, which facilitate the formation of abundant pores after carbonization;
Low ash content, preventing excessive inorganic impurities from affecting the purity and adsorption properties of the activated carbon;
High carbon content and moderate volatile matter content, which facilitate the formation of activated carbon with a large specific surface area.
Common woods suitable for making activated carbon include:
1.Hardwoods (dense structure, well-developed pores, and excellent activated carbon properties)
- Oak
- Birch
- Maple
- Walnut
- Camphor
2.Tropical and subtropical woods
- Palm
- Acacia
- Eucalyptus
3.Fast-growing woods (can be cultivated on a large scale and are suitable for industrial activated carbon production)
- Poplar
- Willow

Wood Based Activated Carbon Making Machine Working Principle And Process Flow
The production of wood-based activated carbon mainly involves two key processes: carbonization dan activation.
- Carbonization: The wood raw material is heated to a high temperature (usually between 600-800°C ) under anaerobic or oxygen-limited conditions. This process decomposes the volatile substances in the wood, removes moisture and tar, and forms a primary carbon structure with certain porosity—namely, charcoal.
- Activation: The carbonized charcoal is treated at a higher temperature (using physical or chemical methods) to further expand its pore structure and increase its specific surface area, thus obtaining excellent adsorption performance. Activation methods are mainly divided into:
- Physical Activation: Uses oxidizing gases (such as water vapor, flue gas ) at high temperatures (800-1000°C) to etch the carbon structure.
- Chemical Activation: Mixes the raw material with chemical agents (such as phosphoric acid, zinc chloride) before carbonization, which is then decomposed and activated at lower temperatures.
